The world is a very volatile place. Tempers flare, fists fly and in worst case scenarios, weapons are drawn and lives lost or changed forever. In Austin Texas Karmelo Anthony stabbed Austin Metcalf to death after he taunted him and there were no winners in this. Metcalf lost his life and Anthony threw his away the minute he resorted to using a weapon.

 

Here at home, lyrics to songs are angry and smutty and they are belted out of cars, minivans and at fetes. But words are powerful. They can start wars or build bridges of peace and hope. Jesus, the Word of God made flesh, spoke to storm and the wild sea was stilled. That’s an awesome illustration of the power of words! God asks us to meditate on His Word because He knows its power.

 

The supposed glitz of thug life offers transient wealth, but no peace and no positive eternal reward. Luke reminds us in Luke 16:13 that ‘No one can serve two masters. Either you will hate the one and love the other, or you will be devoted to the one and despise the other.’  What you constantly think of, watch, listen to or read and who allow into your space and what you say, will shape your future. It will become your master. Choose wisely. Jesus stands at the door of your heart, knocking. Will you answer?
